Truck accidents: FedEx truck crashes into car, killing UPS driver

Sharing the busy California highways with commercial vehicles can be dangerous. When passenger cars are involved in truck accidents, the occupants of the cars often suffer catastrophic injuries or worse. One such an accident caused the death of the driver of a car on Interstate 880 in the early morning hours of a recent Thursday.

According to an officer of the California Highway Patrol, the fatal crash occurred in the southbound lanes of the interstate at approximately 3 a.m. An accident report indicates that a FedEx Truck smashed into a car under circumstances that were not reported. Authorities say all the efforts of firefighters and paramedics to save the life of the car's driver were in vain, and, sadly, that person succumbed to catastrophic injuries.

It was later revealed that the deceased person was a UPS driver who was off-duty at the time of the accident. CHP mentioned the involvement of a third vehicle, but no further information was provided. As with all fatal crashes, an investigation is likely underway to determine fault.

Whenever lives are lost in truck accidents that occur due to the negligence of truck operators, the surviving family members of a deceased crash victim may pursue recovery of damages. This can be done by filing a wrongful death lawsuit in a California civil court. The process involves establishing negligence to enable the court to determine liability. When commercial vehicles are involved, an experienced personal injury attorney may help to identify the parties that could be named as defendants. Along with the truck driver, the owner of the vehicle and other entities could also be held responsible for financial and emotional damages.
