A fire broke out in a workshop on a recent Wednesday. Reportedly, one worker suffered burn injuries. Most workplace injuries are preventable, and the cause of the fire is being investigated. The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health will likely also assess the employer’s compliance with fire safety standards.
Reportedly, the fire broke out shortly after 3:30. Investigators report that many drums and compressed gas cylinders with unknown contents were stored in the workshop. A hazmat crew responded to determine the nature of the contents of the drums. Additionally, there were about 20 vehicles, backhoes and tractors on the property. The building was described as a commercial building.
There is concern about environmental harm and the possibility that hazardous chemicals were disposed of inappropriately. Furthermore, the area is residential, and the contents of the drums were of commercial nature. The fire erupted and caused injuries to one worker. It was later reported that the worker suffered second-degree burns over a significant part of his body.
