Car accidents: High-speed head-on crash causes serious injuries

Motorists on San Francisquito Canyon Road might have experienced delays on a recent Wednesday evening when the road was reduced to a single traffic lane to allow the investigation of a head-on collision. Along with the Los Angeles County Fire Department, the California Highway Patrol responded to the crash. It is suspected that this was one of those car accidents in which excessive speed played a primary role.

According to a preliminary crash report, the collision was between the vehicles of a northbound 28-year-old driver and a southbound 37-year-old driver. Witnesses apparently reported seeing the northbound vehicle moving across the center into the lane of the southbound traffic to pass about six northbound vehicles. Reportedly, he was traveling at a high rate of speed and approaching a blind curve.

At the same time, the southbound vehicle approached the curve from the opposite direction. A head-on crash followed that reportedly caused critical but non-life threatening injuries to both drivers. It was not known whether alcohol or drugs played a role, but speed was mentioned as a possible contributing factor.

High-speed car accidents are known to cause catastrophic injuries that could affect the lives of victims for many years — if not permanently. Medical costs and loss of income are only some of the financial consequences of such incidents, not to mention the emotional trauma that can follow. Any California victims of car accidents that were caused by the negligence of other parties will be entitled to pursue recovery of damages by filing personal injury lawsuits in a civil court. Many victims choose to retain the services of experienced personal injury attorneys to navigate such claims for them.
